January 18th, 2011

This week the students wrote all about Recycling using the 6 traits of writing!  Great job focusing on word choice to make sure that we have sentence fluency.

We are well into our space unit and the students are loving it!!  We can't wait to visit the planetarium next week!

Representatives from our student council came in to talk with us about Recycling.  Ask your child to tell you about what they can and cannot recycle.  :)

Students worked with math buddies to play a math placement game using a hundreds chart.  You can play at home... Start with any number and then give directions and see if they land on the correct number.  Example:  start at 0 and move 10 numbers, subtract 2, subtract 3, add 9...what number did you get??  Did you get 14??  Correct!!!!

December 2011

"Let our hearts sing out to the Lord..."

The students of 1B ready for the Christmas Concert.  Heaven heard the sounds of Angels coming from our gym on this night...

NATIVITY
The students were asked to cut out hand puppets and retell the story of the Nativity.  I was absolutely amazed at the creativity that came from this assignment.  The students not only cut out the hand puppets that I provided but went above and beyond...creating an angel, donkey and nativity sets to go along with the retell.  The students asked me if they could then act out the retells in front of the class.  The students paired off with their reading buddies and retold the story.  It was really neat to see each pair of students tell he same story in a different way.  How fun and creative!

For our Christmas party the students made snowflake ornaments that represented the stroy of Jesus.  How special!
